South County PTSO
Type of Meeting: Board
Meeting Date: October 28, 2019
Meeting Location: 7:00 PM, SCHS Library/Media Center
1. Call to Order at 7:05 PM
2. Minutes Review from June 3rd 2019 Meeting approved as written.
• 3. Officers’ Reports: • mySchoolBucks.com contest, we won $1,000
一 • Volunteers/program discussion: Scholarships/SAT prep i. Need two volunteers to lead each of these committees, and they need to be non-senior parents. (sign up available on the PTSO website)
一 ii. Catalyst SAT prep program doesn’t exist anymore (went bankrupt). Founder of Catalyst started a new online weekend bootcamp program to replace it. Nannette is working on a survey to see if this new method of prep is worthwhile to provide again in the spring. Another company has offered an in person Boot Camp option but it is expensive ($600.00). The volunteer who coordinates this would be responsible for selecting the new test prep company and coordinating with them for registration, reserving space at school if needed, and making sure payment is received.
一
一 • Drug program/No Vaping campaign. Nannette has a speaker and there was discussion on optimal dates; this will be a standalone presentation (i.e., not done as part of a PTSO meeting).
一 • Would have liked to do a candidate forum for school board candidates specifically, but due to a lack of volunteer to run it and scheduling conflicts with several candidates, unable to pull it off.
一 • Treasurer’s Report. Updates as of last night. The booth fees for the craft fair are still coming in and some membership fees are still coming in. Paid the bill for the Parent Social at Casa Tequila, which had a good turnout (about 35 people). Spent $8,000 for the South County T-shirts, not all students have received them yet. A discussion took place on the success of these shirts and if it should be done again (about $4.00 a shirt).
一
• 4. Committee Reports: • Academic Letters/Honor Roll—need to talk to Academic Boosters about whether they are doing car stickers that say Stallion Football, Stallion Cheer, Stallion Basketball, etc.; if they start doing that, we could look at similar stickers for “Stallion Academics” or “Stallion Honor Roll.” In the meantime, planning to hand out gift cars again for honor roll recipients; Admin will distribute.
• • Amazon—Amazon terminated our affiliate agreement, so now we have to publicize we are a part of Amazon Smile (generally 0.5% revenue for purchases made on Amazon—significantly less than the Affiliate program revenue)
• ANGP. Cassy gave report. In terms of revenue, we are under what was sold last year for most items so far; off to a slow start with sales. Still have no one to run/coordinate flocking program.
• Craft fair on December 7, need volunteers. A big portion of the funding for the ANGP comes from this event. We need volunteers to publicize this event. Splitting profit of the Fun Run that is taking place at the beginning of the Craft fair. Still have room for more vendors. PTSO is not taking any more vendors that sell jewelry and kid related items because we have plenty of those. Craft Fair is December 7th.
